In Focus: Research & Knowledge and Technology Transfer

Being a general university, the University of Salzburg is characterized by a large variety of scientific disciplines and a wide scope of teaching and research. On the one hand, the university’s research profile is defined by the focus areas and centres. On the other hand, excellent research is carried out at the departments and at the school of education as well. Academics pursue their research from a cross-disciplinary point of view and they aim to build bridges between science and industry. This is accomplished not only by collaborating and exchanging with international colleagues, but also by cooperating with a large number of businesses of every size on a regional, national, European or international level.

Focus areas

The present focus areas have been created to improve the research profile of the university. They build on already existing strengths and make special competencies visible.

 

Christian Doppler Laboratories

The Christian Doppler Research Association promotes the cooperation between science and business in specially established research units. Christian Doppler Laboratories focus on application-oriented basic research on a high level.

 

Research projects funded by the EU, the FWF, the FFG, federal ministries, the province of Salzburg, etc.

Contract research

The University of Salzburg makes its knowledge and competencies available to third parties as well. In the context of contract research, projects address various problems of institutions and businesses of every size on a regional, national, European or international level.

 

Knowledge and technology transfer

Doctoral progammes

Doctoral programmes at the University of Salzburg serve the next generation of scholars as a starting point for further research. The cornerstones of the promotion of young academics are the 20 doctoral groups of the Doctorate School PLUS and the six doctoral groups supported by external sponsors.

    The new edition of the journal for practical philosophy is now online, with its finger on the pulse is also takes into account one topic that is shaping us like no other:the Corona pandemic. It is one of the two main focuses of the issue and its considerable scope not only reflects the importance of this topic, but also the real need to reflect philosophically and ethically on the diverse consequences of this pandemic.
    With the PLUS Talk, a new form of communication was introduced to the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg in 2020. Within the framework of this format members of the rectorate discuss certain key issues with employees of the PLUS, students and public representatives. The discussions take place LIVE and offer participants the opportunity to ask questions on current topics.
    On Wednesday 17th March 2021 PLUS is holding a virtual open day and warmly invites all interested pupils and final year classes offenen. Further information can be found under www.uni-salzburg.at/openday.
    After talks with the ministry and intensive consultation with the deans, the rectorate of the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg has decided that exams should generally only be conducted online at the moment. The following points apply here:
    There are numerous challenges in everyday elementary education, not only in Corona times. The art lies in dealing constructively with challenging situations. The fourth day of elementary education in Salzburg on 22nd January 2021, which will take place in digital form due to the pandemic-related measures, is dedicated to the topic of "Dealing with challenges in a solution-oriented way - competently and safely".
