Volkmar Lauber was Professor of Comparative Politics at the University of Salzburg, Austria, until September, 2013. He received his degrees from the University of Vienna (doctorate in law 1968), Harvard Law School (Master of Laws 1970) and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Ph.D. in Political Science 1977). Prior to returning to Austria he taught at several US institutions, including one year at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in Bologna, Italy. For several years he was board member of the FWF (the Austrian Science Fund) in charge of social sciences and is still representing the FWF in the Standing Committee on the Social Sciences of the European Science Foundation. His research and publications related mostly to the politics of public policy - economic policy, environmental policy and most recently energy and climate policy, particularly in the EU and several of its member states. Recent publications in the journals Energy Policy; Bulletin of Science, Technology and Society; Energy & Environment; Zeitschrift für Neues Energierecht. He was the editor of Switching to Renewable Power (London: Earthscan, 2005).

    The project „Digital Innovation Hub West“ is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs. In addition to public cooperation partners Austria's universities and universities of applied sciences are also involved. The University of Salzburg is also participating in this project, and is represented by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Andreas Uhl (Department of Computer Sciences).
    The Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, in cooperation with Doctors without Borders, is opening a Christian Doppler Laboratory for geospatial and earth observation based humanitarian technologies (gEOhum).The opening took place virtually on the 8th July 2020.
    Salzburg's church historian Prof. Dietmar W. Winkler will continue to work as a consultant to the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity. Pope Francis has extended the Salzburger theologian's advisory role. Prof. Winkler was first appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. in 2008.
    At the end of March, in the middle of the Corona pandemic, Croatia was hit by a severe earthquake. With this special call ÖAW (Austrian Academy of Sciences) sets a humanitarian sign and does its utmost best to support scientific collaboration with Croatian colleagues.
    The International Data Week - a top class specialist congress with 900 participants from the field of data science - will take place for the first time in October 2023 in Europe. The city of Salzburg was able to beat numerous other applicants to be the hosts of the event. The University of Salzburg is an important cooperation partner.
    From October 2020 the University of Salzburg will be offering the new bachelor's degree „Medical Biology“. The course aims to convey the diversity of the biomedical science disciplines and therefore facilitates a multi-faceted, biological understanding for topics which are essential for medicine.The course content ranges from the small scale structure of the cell and organs and organ systems to the biology of complex interpersonal interactions.
    150 participants have already taken the opportunity to register for more than 50 courses on IT and digitialisation at the ditact_women's IT summer studies at the University of Salzburg, which will take place from the 01.09.-12.09.2020.Registration is still possible until the 12. July and then the remaining places will be taken as last minute reservations.
