Stadtbäume als Klimabotschafter - Urban trees as climate messengers

Urban trees are green and much more: shade dispensers, cold air suppliers, fine dust filters and oxygen producers. Urban trees are part of the green infrastructure and important elements of urban climate adaptation. How many ecosystem services can urban trees really provide and which tree species are adapted to climate change? The project objective is to contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between growth, phenology and ecosystem services of urban trees.

In the Sparkling Science Projekt ‚Stadtbäume als Klimabotschafter‘  Scientists, experts, teachers and pupils from Austria, Germany and Hungary are researching together: The goal is the observation, measurement and modeling of phenological phases and microclimatic data. On the basis of the measured data, pupils not only make quantitative assessments of the climatic regulation services of their urban trees, but also artistically implement their research results and project experience. In this way they can creatively represent the meaning of urban trees from their perspective. The meeting of different perspectives also enables a valuable intercultural learning experience.
