Workshop, 18th January 2019 at St. Virgil

The workshop of the MMG-group at St. Virgil in Salzburg in January 2019 was enlightening to everyone who participated. It seldom happens that so many diverse disciplines come together to look at the same phenomena: migration and mobility. The disciplines represented ranged from Art, Music and Dance Studies to Sociology, Theology, History, Political Science, Geography, and Communication Science, including a Social Work Practitioner, and demonstrated a wide array of potential inter and multi-disciplinary opportunities. Each of the twelve participants prepared a short introduction to their research with an accompanying poster of his or her research focus, past project involvements, and ideas for possible future collaborations. Each presentation was followed with a short discussion and Q&A from the other participants, leading to a lively discussion which carried over into lunch and coffee sessions.

The workshop reaffirmed the wealth of research in migration and mobility at PLUS which can be approached from a variety of methodological and disciplinary perspectives. The scholars who participated noted the possibilities of doing complementary research together as well as further building out the agenda of the MMG-group. Some of the members already noted their collaboration such as work on the SDG Agenda in Austria, while others began to explore the potential of future collaborations.
