Master Position in Skin Immunology:“HDACs as regulators of immunity”

We invite applications for a full time Master position in our “Tissue Immune Regulation” group. www.uni-salzburg.at/gratz

Our research group focuses on the role of T cells in skin. The candidate will be part of a team working on the regulation of T cell responses in the skin in mice. Special focus will be on the role of epigenetic regulators, HDACs, in regulatory T cells. The project will be performed in the context of a multi-group consortium (an FWF-funded SFB) focused on HDAC biology in T cells. We can offer close interaction with multiple research groups in Vienna that offer expertise in Bioinformatics, Epigenetics, Proteomics and anti-microbial immune responses. More information on the consortium can be found at http://www.meduniwien.ac.at/HIT/ .

Responsibilities: The applicant will be responsible for performing their own experiments with guidance from a PhD student within the research team. Specifically, the candidate will work with in vivo models of skin autoimmunity, gain in-depth experience in flow cytometry and T cell biology.

Profile: We are looking forward to applications from highly motivated Biologists. Applicants should have a background (class work) in cellular and molecular immunology and be willing to perform in vivo experiments involving mice. Beneficial would be basic knowledge of flow cytometry.

Offer: We offer training in functional cellular assays using immune cells as well as skin tissue cells. You will gain experience in flow cytometry, mouse handling, and expand on your understanding of Immunology. Option to receive part-time employment (“geringfügige Anstellung”).

Starting date as soon as possible (Fall 2019) Interested? For more information please contact Dr. Iris Gratz, Tel.: +43 662 8044-5764

Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. Applicants should submit curriculum vitae, grades/transcript of records of your Bachelor and Master program and contact information of a reference (e.g. supervisor of Bachelor thesis or lab rotation) to: iris.gratz@sbg.ac.at

Position for a PhD-Student: We invite applications for a full time PhD position in our “Tissue Immune Regulation” group. www.uni-salzburg.at/gratz

The PhD student will be part of the Doctoral School “Biomolecules” of the University of Salzburg ( http://acbn.sbg.ac.at/doctorate-school/about/ ), and benefit from high quality teaching and training including participation in regular seminars with leading speakers.

Responsibilities: The project aims to understand the role of HDACs for the development of T cell-dependent skin autoimmunity in a mouse model. We will apply state-of-the-art technologies, including flow cytometry, and transcriptomic and epigenomic analysis, as well as advanced cell biology techniques, including the use of in vivo models. In collaboration with the SFB groups our work will enable the integration of murine and human datasets and provide a rationale for the use of new-generation HDAC inhibitors for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. The applicant will perform their research in collaboration with a PhD student within the research team and also perform experiments with other groups of the SFB. Profile: We are looking forward to receiving applications from highly motivated students. The ideal candidate has a Master’s degree in Immunology, Molecular biology, or a related discipline and ideally have documented experience with flow cytometry and methods of molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, and mouse models. Understanding of epigenetics and RNA-sequencing analyses would be advantageous. Starting date: as soon as possible (Fall 2019). Interested?
