Procedures
1) APPLICATION / SUBMISSION DEADLINE July 31, 2020
To apply for the YIA an abstract (either in English or in German) of up to 600 words must be submitted (max. 5 references), as well as a CV and (optional) a paper on the topic, the doctoral thesis or a chapter of the doctoral thesis. The topic of the abstract must be part of the dissertation (at the PLUS) of the first author. Applicants are either doctoral students at the university of Salzburg or postdoctoral scientists less than a year after graduation.
Award winners from the previous years are excluded from the competition.
Ongoing dissertation projects can only take part in the competition if an approved disposition and initial results are available.
Please submit the completed application form in addition to the (optional) paper on the topic, doctoral thesis or chapter of the doctoral thesis to doktorat(at)sbg.ac.at. The deadline for submission is July 31, 2020.
2) EVALUATION
The evaluation is performed in the 6 topic areas mentioned above by the members of the Scientific Committee. The members of the SC ensure that the quality and the presentations is weighed and valued in two evaluation rounds: abstract rating (2.1) & oral presentation (2.2). The audience award will be given at the Night of Excellence ceremony (3).
2.1) ABSTRACT RATING
Submitted abstracts to each topic area are evaluated following the criteria given below. The three best-ranked candidates in each topic area are invited to present their research in an public oral session.
2.2) ORAL PRESENTATION
- Each presentation lasts for 6 minutes, followed by 6 minutes of discussion.
- The oral presentation can be given either in German or in English.
- A member of the SC. chairs each session.
- The SC decides over the winner of each topic area.
3) “NIGHT OF EXCELLENCE” and AUDIENCE AWARD
The winners will be announced to the public at the “Night-of-Excellence”-ceremony, in the Unipark library hall. The award winners present their scientific work in the form of short presentations (2–3 minutes). The audience selects the best presentation using live voting.
