Study Abroad Programme grant

The University of Salzburg has many agreements with universities worldwide, which enable students to attend courses abroad tuition-free. These courses can then be accredited to their course programme at the University of Salzburg. Availability, scope and content of the "Study Abroad Programme" vary for each partner university.

Grant duration: the length of the study period is from a minimum of one semester (or trimester) up to a year.

Grant for short-term, study-relevant specific courses abroad

These are specialised courses (summer and winter schools) for learning academic methods and practices which are absolutely necessary for the students study programme in Austria, as well as being relevant to their job prospects.

Grant duration: minimum 1 week, maximum 3 months.

Grant for short-term, academic theses work abroad

Granted to those wishing to carry out necessary, study-relevant work for example diploma or theses research (in laboratories, libraries, academic collections, archives and field research). Grant cover for is between 1 and 6 months. 

Particular exceptions are made to shorten the stay, but for no shorter than 14 days;

Grant duration: bachelor theses for maximum 1 month, Diploma/Master theses maximum 3 months, dissertation students will not be funded for longer than 6 months.

Subsidy for study abroad – students of English and American Studies/ Romance Language and Literatures/ Slavonic Studies

Students of the above-mentioned study programmes can apply for a subsidy to support their study at a foreign university in order to perfect their language skills.

Grant duration: the duration of the study period must be at least a semester but no more than a year.

Subsidy for doctoral theses students visiting conferences abroad

The University of Salzburg allocates subsidies to doctoral these students who wish to visit conferences/ congresses/ symposia/ workshops abroad. The targeted group is doctoral students of the University of Salzburg who are not contracted workers at the university. The following costs will be covered by the funding: travel, accommodation and allowance. 

There are two submission deadlines each year:

31st January and 30th June

    Our sleep in one of our most important resources– unfortunately it is often affected and neglected. Interested parties can now take part in a newly developed, 6-week online programme, which was developed by the sleep laboratory team at the University of Salzburg in the framework of a current research project.
    The original programme for the KinderUNI of the University of Salzburg and its event partner the Mozarteum University Salzburg has been rejigged: even turned on its head the KinderUNI Salzburg offers an exciting, reorganised programme for 8-12 year olds. For the first time, a lot of things are location independent and can therefore be viewed from all over Austria or even farther afield.
    During the time of Corona Gerade, in particular, it became clear just how important it is to support students digitally in their every day university life. The project „On Track“ – stay on track combines digital and social worlds. It is starting at the right time!
    You want to start a teaching degree at the University of Salzburg and are considering choosing one ( or even two) Romance language(s) but you have some questions, uncertainties or doubts about the possibilities and the university level education in the Department of Fachbereich Romance Studies?
    The project „Digital Innovation Hub West“ is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs. In addition to public cooperation partners Austria's universities and universities of applied sciences are also involved. The University of Salzburg is also participating in this project, and is represented by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Andreas Uhl (Department of Computer Sciences).
    The Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, in cooperation with Doctors without Borders, is opening a Christian Doppler Laboratory for geospatial and earth observation based humanitarian technologies (gEOhum).The opening took place virtually on the 8th July 2020.
    Salzburg's church historian Prof. Dietmar W. Winkler will continue to work as a consultant to the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity. Pope Francis has extended the Salzburger theologian's advisory role. Prof. Winkler was first appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. in 2008.
    At the end of March, in the middle of the Corona pandemic, Croatia was hit by a severe earthquake. With this special call ÖAW (Austrian Academy of Sciences) sets a humanitarian sign and does its utmost best to support scientific collaboration with Croatian colleagues.
    The International Data Week - a top class specialist congress with 900 participants from the field of data science - will take place for the first time in October 2023 in Europe. The city of Salzburg was able to beat numerous other applicants to be the hosts of the event. The University of Salzburg is an important cooperation partner.
    From October 2020 the University of Salzburg will be offering the new bachelor's degree „Medical Biology“. The course aims to convey the diversity of the biomedical science disciplines and therefore facilitates a multi-faceted, biological understanding for topics which are essential for medicine.The course content ranges from the small scale structure of the cell and organs and organ systems to the biology of complex interpersonal interactions.
    150 participants have already taken the opportunity to register for more than 50 courses on IT and digitialisation at the ditact_women's IT summer studies at the University of Salzburg, which will take place from the 01.09.-12.09.2020.Registration is still possible until the 12. July and then the remaining places will be taken as last minute reservations.
