Study Abroad der PLUS Programme – Semester/Year Abroad at a Partner University

The University of Salzburg has many agreements with universities worldwide. This enables students to attend courses abroad tuition-free which can be accredited to their course programme at the University of Salzburg.

• Availability, scope and content of the "Study Abroad der PLUS Programme" vary for each partner university.

• A coordinator is responsible for choosing and guiding students.

• The duration of the study period is from a minimum of one semester (or trimester) up to a year.

• Finance: Students who are nominated by the coordinator responsible for the partner university within the “Study Abroad der PLUS Programme” can apply for a study abroad grant through the relevant agency (for recipients of a study grant - Study Grant Department) or they can apply for the Study Abroad an der PLUS grant (for those who do not receive a study grant) in the International Relations Office of the University of Salzburg.

The seven steps for a successful application are as follows:

• Choose a University from the list of partner universities.

• Contact the relevant coordinator (name appears in the list of partner universities).

• Assemble the relevant application documents for the study placement – in English or the native language of the host country and, if applicable, complete a language test (i.e. TOEFL, MELAB). After the selection has been made by the coordinator (nomination), the documents will be sent off to the partner university.

• Questions concerning accreditation – compile a list of the scheduled modules offered abroad. This can then be approved by the heads of the study commission at your faculty, so that the courses are guaranteed to be accredited to your study programme on your return.

• Finance: for recipients of a study grant – international grants offer; for other applicants – apply for the Joint Study grant in the International Relations Office. The rates differ according to the mobility destination.

• Wait until you receive the admission letter or “Aufnahmebestätigung”. After the official acceptance letter has been received: apply for a visa with the Foreign Representations of the relevant country; reserve accommodation on the partner university’s campus; book flight.

• (If applicable) submit the tuition waiver, as issued by the International Relations Office, in the Admissions Department. Further options for grants are available in the database created by the OeAD: www.grants.at .
