China Know-How Summer School 2020

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, dear Colleagues, Dear Students, Dear Friends!

As we can see and hear from the media and friends in China, the situation in China regarding the Coronavirus is getting better from day to day. However, the country is still not copletely virus free at the moment. At the same time, Europe still has a few weeks or maybe even months ahead of it regarding the Coronavirus pandemic. Exit restrictions and bans shape our everyday lives and in some European countries the virus hits the population particularly hard.

For the aforementioned reasons, and for the safety of the prospective participants of the China Know-How Summer School 2020, we are unfortunately forced to break our tradition of holding the China Know-How Summer School for Austrian and European students for the first time in so many years.

This year's summer school would have been held from 14th of August to 12th of September in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Xi'an and Beijing and we, the University of Salzburg, have to announce that, due to safety reasons for our prospective students travelling from Europe to China, it must be cancelled.

We very much regret this step, but unfortunately we do not see a solution for the summer school under these difficult conditions.

We hope that we can accompany you in China next year and that we will become even stronger and more ambitious from this year's break.

We are looking forward, with hope and determination in our hearts, to many more years of the China Know-How Summer School to come.

As the Director of the Chinese Studies Center, I would like to personally express my gratitude to you for the fruitful cooperation and trust over the years and for your interest in the China Know-How Summer School.

My team and I are very much looking forward to continuing our friendship and cooperation and to accompanying you in your quest for getting to know China better in the years to come.

If you have any questions left, please feel free to write me or my assistant Dragana Imbric (Dragana.Imbric@sbg.ac.at).

Yours sincerely,
Judith Suchanek
Director
