Since 1999 China and Austria have been building bridges by working together and organizing the yearly "China Know-How Summer School" for young people to get more knowledge about China. The Summer School gives interested participants a chance to gain insights into a new culture and a different political, economical and legal system in China.

Successful participants of the Summer School have the possibility to claim 5 ECTS points at their home institution.

Targets of the program

  • Acquisition of additional qualifications useful for a potential future career in  East Asia
  • Preparing  for  future  trading  markets  by  becoming  acquainted  with  the  legal  and   economic system, labor and production processes, social and environmental  situation, culture and living conditions in China
  • Obtaining a basic command of the Chinese language

To be eligible to apply you

  • are student or scientist from an Austrian or international university, university of applied sciences, or another institution of higher education in Austria or abroad
  • are an employee preferably of an international company or a company which wants to go  international
  • have a good command of the English language/no command of Chinese language required!

The "Modern China Studies" Summer School takes place at four prestigious Chinese universities, namely the University of Hong  Kong, Fudan University (Shanghai), Xi'an International Studies University and Peking University. There are different teaching modules held in English. Lectures involve topics such as history, philosophy, culture, business, economics, politics, the legal system, environmental issues, cross-cultural management etc. in China. Students also have the opportunity to meet European experts working in China. Paying visits to successful joint-venture companies in Shanghai and excursions and sightseeing sessions are a part of the program.

Successful participants of the China Know-How Summer School can claim 5 ECTS points at their home institution!

For the participants, studying at Austrian universities and universities of applied sciences, which are members of the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet, there is a possibility of being granted a scholarship by the Eurasia-Pacific Uninet amounting to probably approx. € 500 as well as a possible sponsor scholarship ( the precise sum will be announced shortly).

In addition to a Eurasia-Pacific Uninet scholarship, University of Salzburg students can apply for a  University of Salzburg scholarship amounting to € 1.078 as well as for the abovementioned sponsor scholarship.

The participants from other other universities or colleges can presumably also apply for the sponsorship scholarship. We also kindly advise them to please inform themselves about scholarship possibilities at their home institutions.

Application Deadline is MAY 22, 2019!


Costs (without airfare): EURO 2.900 - 3.300,--*

The costs of EURO 3.300,-- (without airfare) include the full program fees of the Chinese universites and of the accompanying programs, the accommodation in hotels/students dormitories (in two-bed rooms, including breakfast and internet)  the train rides between the cities as well as an organization fee.

For the flight, depending on the airline, the participants may have to pay between EURO 700 to 1.000. The aforementioned costs can be seen as appraisals and serve as a reference point. Change of overal costs is subject to changes due to (among other reasons) currency fluctuations.
