CHINESE-AUSTRIAN-EU SUMMER SCHOOL 2020

Honorable Presidents, Professors and Directors, Dear Colleagues, Dear Students, Dear Friends!

As we can see and hear from the media and friends in China, the situation in China regarding the Coronavirus has calmed down. These are very good news and we hope you all are in good health.

At the same time, Europe still has a few weeks or maybe even months ahead of it regarding the Coronavirus pandemic. Exit restrictions and bans shape our everyday lives and in some European countries the virus hits the population particularly hard.

For these reasons, we are unfortunately forced to break our tradition of holding the Chinese-Austrian-EU Summer School for Chinese students for the first time in so many years.

This year's summer school would have been held from 16th July to 13th of August and we, the University of Salzburg, have to announce that, due to safety reasons for our guest students, it must be cancelled.

We very much regret this step, but unfortunately we do not see a solution for the summer school under these difficult conditions.  We hope that we can welcome you in Europe next year and that we will become even stronger and more ambitious from this year's break.

We are looking forward, with hope and determination in our hearts, to many more years of the Summer School to come.

As the Director of the Chinese Studies Center, I would like to personally express my gratitude to you for our fruitful cooperation and trust over the years. My team and I are very much looking forward to continuing our friendship and cooperation in the years to come.

If you have any questions left, please feel free to write me or my assistant Adis Šerifović (adis.serifovic@sbg.ac.at).

Yours sincerely,

Judith Suchanek
Director
Chinese Studies Center
