20 June: Public Lecture "International Finance" with Prof. Lisa Herzog (Munich)

On 20 June, 2017, Prof. Lisa Herzog from the Munich University of Politics will hold a public lecture on the effects of international financial mechanisms from the point of view of global justice.

Über die Vortragende: Lisa Herzog ist seit Sommer 2016 iInhaberin der Professur für Politische Philosophie und Theorie an der Hochschule für Politik / Technischen Universität München. Sie arbeitet an der Schnittstelle von politischer Philosophie und Ökonomie. Schwerpunkte sind die Ideengeschichte des politischen und wirtschaftlichen Denkens, die normative Bewertung von Märkten (insbesondere von Finanzmärkten) und Fragen der Ethik in Organisationen.

Prof.in Herzog studierte Philosophie, Volkswirtschaftslehre, Politikwissenschaft und Neuere Geschichte an den Universitäten München (LMU) und Oxford. Von 2008 bis 2011 promovierte sie als Rhodes Scholar an der Oxford University zum Thema „Inventing the Market. Smith, Hegel, and Political Theory.“ Seitdem arbeitete sie an den Universitäten TU München, St. Gallen, KU Leuven, Frankfurt, und Stanford.

Über den Vortrag: Prof.in Herzog analysiert in ihrem Vortrag zwei Finanzmechanismen – Staatsschulden und Kapitalflüsse – aus politik-theoretischer und philosophischer Perspektive. Sie versucht damit zu zeigen, wie solche globalen Finanzmechanismen die Position von Staaten und ihre Interaktion beeinflussen und zu globaler Ungerechtigkeit beitragen können.

    16th Development Policy University Weeks: 6 to 16 November, 2017
    After a long period of preparation, it is time now: at the Salzburg location, the Paris Lodron University, Salzburg University of Education Stefan Zweig, University Mozarteum and the Kirchliche Pädagogische Hochschule Edith Stein are opening a joint Zentrum für Pädagogisch-Praktische Studien.
    In July 2017, the Botstiber Institute for Austrian-American Studies awarded an annual grant to Assistant Professor Joshua Parker (American Studies) for the project "Flowers in the Snow: Austrian Refugees in Manhattan".
    The university course, "Kuratieren in den szenischen Künsten" is being offered for the second time in 2018 at the University of Salzburg. The course introduces the foundations of curating in theater, dance and music theater.

    In the minimum time of four semesters, six students of the University of Salzburg successfully completed the course of studies Bewegtes Lernen.
    Since 1979, a congress of the European Society for Herpetology (Societas Europaea Herpetologica) has been held every two years. This year, for the second time in Austria and for the first time in Salzburg, the Congress took place 18 – 23 September, 2017.
    For five weeks, the data science student, Martin Huf, worked in city statistics and researched the population development of the past three years in the city of Salzburg as part of his compulsory practical training. The course DataScience in the Wissensstadt Salzburg is unique in Austria and gives the students the necessary tools for working with "Big Data".
