„Würde des Menschen nicht relativierbar“

At the end of the Salzburger Hochschulwochen, outgoing Rector Heinrich Schmidinger pleaded for contemporary humanism in response to a complex and confused world. Anyone who gives in to the longing for simplicity will ring in the hour of ideology.

„Heute eröffnet der Umgang mit Komplexität weitreichende Möglichkeiten, die neue Komplexitäten erzeugen. Damit können wir nicht mehr umgehen, hinken unweigerlich hinterher“, sagte der scheidende Rektor Heinrich Schmidinger in seiner Festrede am Ende der diesjährigen Salzburger Hochschulwochen. Sie hatten unter dem Thema „Die Komplexität der Welt und die Sehnsucht nach Einfachheit“ gestanden. Schmidinger, der sein Amt am 1.Oktober an den Internisten Hendrik Lehnert übergeben wird, widmete eine seiner letzten Reden dem „Humanismus in Zeiten wie diesen“.

Humanismus sei weder eine Theorie noch eine weltanschauliche oder philosophische Position, vielmehr Ethos. Der Kern: die Menschlichkeit im Miteinander, in der Wahrnehmung ebenso wie in der menschlichen Reaktion darauf. „Menschsein verwirklicht sich nur so. Die Würde des Menschen ist nicht relativierbar“, sagte Schmidinger. Die Frage des Einzelnen, was aus ihm werde, könne nur durch mehr Aufmerksamkeit auf eigene Erkenntnisse beantwortet werden, nicht durch die Ablenkungen des täglichen Lebens. Eine wichtige Rolle komme dabei der Sprache zu, die den Raum zur Begegnung und zum Verhalten zueinander öffne: „Mit ihr drücken wir Menschlichkeit aus.“ Vor einem christlichen Hintergrund bedeute Humanismus vor allem eines: Glaube an den Menschen und seine Zukunftsfähigkeit.

2020 finden die Salzburger Hochschulwochen von 3. bis 9. August statt und stehen unter dem Motto „Du musst Dein Ändern leben – Zwischen Change-Management und Selbstoptimierung“.
