Sabine Seichter on the Board of the Görres-Gesellschaft

At the 122nd Annual Meeting in Paderborn, the Salzburg educational scientist, Sabine Seichter, was elected to the board of the interdisciplinary and international Görres-Gesellschaft.

Der Görres-Gesellschaft gehören derzeit rund 3.000 Mitglieder an, die in 20 wissenschaftlichen Fachbereichen bzw. Sektionen organisiert sind. Das christliche Menschenbild und die christliche Ethik prägen die Arbeit ihrer Mitglieder.

Die Görres-Gesellschaft versteht sich als eine Plattform, die die aktuellen wissenschaftlichen Debatten in ihrer gesellschaftlichen Vielfalt aufgreift und sich im Spannungsfeld von säkularer Welt, wissenschaftlichem Fortschritt und christlicher Tradition aktiv daran beteiligt.

Von einer Gruppe katholischer Forscher und Publizisten im Jahre 1876 gegründet, ist die Görres-Gesellschaft eine der ältesten deutschen Wissenschaftsgesellschaften. Sie kann auf eine große Zahl bedeutender Gelehrter als Mitglieder zurückblicken.

    Univ.Doz. Dr. Dr.h.c. Jasmine Dum-Tragut received the medal on 31 October at the closing event of her curated exhibition "Far from home - fates of Armenian prisoners of war in the First World War" at the Genocide Museum Institute in Yerevan, Armenia.
    The Salzburg historian, Christina Antenhofer, was recently appointed a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (Historical Class).
    For the Winter Semester 2019/20, the University of Salzburg appointed five new professors: Michael BLAUBERGER, Univ.-Prof. for Politics of the European Union, Political Science and Sociology (+ DZ SCEUS); Alexander SOKOLICEK, Univ.-Prof. for Classical Archeology, Classical Studies; Ulrike GREINER, Univ.-Prof. for Professional Research and Teacher Education with special reference to subject didactics, School of Education; Margit REITER, Univ.-Prof. for European Contemporary History.
    Social education between help, control, punishment and coercion
    The FFG talent trainee, Larisa Manaj, from BG/BRG Schloss Wagrain in Vöcklabruck, completed a 4-week internship in summer 2019 as part of the Nan-O-Style project at the Faculty of Life Sciences. Her report was announced as one of the top 20 internship reports by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (the Österreichischen Forschungsförderungsgesellschaft (FFG)). The internship supervisor Martin Himly and team from the Department of Life Sciences extend their congratulations!
    From 5 to 22 November, 2019, Südwind, in cooperation with the University of Salzburg, invites experts to the join in the topic of global inequalities and offers a diverse program: 13 events of the series "REDUCE INEQUALITIES think globally - act sustainably" from different perspectives with global issues and their interaction with the local and individual levels.
    The moon as the brightest night star with its changing shape during the month, its disappearance on new moon or the exceptional event of an eclipse has inspired people of all ages, including Ancient Egypt, to reflect on the causes and effects of these phenomena.
