Hans-Stegbuchner-Prize for Ingrid Vukusic and Georg Zimmermann

Ingrid Vukusic and Georg Zimmermann were awarded the Hans-Stegbuchner Prize for outstanding scientific work in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Salzburg on the 19th November 2020.

Ingrid Vukusic, geboren am 14. August 1995, wurde für ihre Masterarbeit ”Application of complex and p–adic linear forms in logarithms in Diophantine equations“ ausgezeichnet. Das Preisgeld beträgt € 250,-. Ingrid Vukusic ist Projektmitarbeiterin an der Universität Salzburg, ihre Arbeit wurde von Assoz.-Prof. Dr. Volker Ziegler betreut.

Georg Zimmermann, geboren am 12. Juli 1990, wurde für seine Dissertation ”Hypothesis tests for covariateadjusted group comparisons in small-sample size settings“ ausgezeichnet. Das Preisgeld beträgt € 500,-. Die Dissertation wurde von Univ.-Prof. Dr. Arne Bathke betreut. Georg Zimmermann ist seit 2014 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Universitätsklinik für Neurologie, Paracelsus Medizinische Privatuniversität Salzburg.

Mit dem Hans-Stegbuchner-Preis werden jährlich herausragende Dissertationen, Master- und Diplomarbeiten des Fachbereichs Mathematik an der Universität Salzburg ausgezeichnet. Der Preis wurde von Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. Hans Stegbuchner initiiert, der von 1980 bis zu seinem frühen Tod im Jahr 1998 als Universitätsdozent am Fachbereich tätig war.

Im Gedenken an ihn wurde der Preis in Hans-Stegbuchner-Preis umbenannt und über mehrere Jahre aus dem Nachlass einer von ihm gegründeten Firma zur Entwicklung von CAD-Systemen finanziert. Seit 2014 wird das Preisgeld vom Raiffeisenverband Salzburg gestiftet.

    The new edition of the journal for practical philosophy is now online, with its finger on the pulse is also takes into account one topic that is shaping us like no other:the Corona pandemic. It is one of the two main focuses of the issue and its considerable scope not only reflects the importance of this topic, but also the real need to reflect philosophically and ethically on the diverse consequences of this pandemic.
    On Monday, 25. January 2021 at 6:00 pm, the online event "Infected Democracy" will take place as part of the course "Change- News in the Context of Politics, Economics and Technology“ under the leadership of Josef Trappel and Stefan Gadringer.
    With the PLUS Talk, a new form of communication was introduced to the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg in 2020. Within the framework of this format members of the rectorate discuss certain key issues with employees of the PLUS, students and public representatives. The discussions take place LIVE and offer participants the opportunity to ask questions on current topics.
