27.11.: Workshop: CHOREOGRAPHING SOUND The Body as an Instrument and Visceral Soundtrack mit Karol Tymiński

The workshop aims to examine the musicality of the body and vice versa the corporeality of music from a choreographic perspective. This approach corresponds with the extension of the concept of music as well as the questioning of performance traditions in the context of New Music, which also puts a stronger emphasis on the body.

Instructor
Karol Tymiński (Performer and Choreographer, Berlin/Germany; Warsaw/Poland)

Tuesday, 27. November 2018, 16:30-21:00

Unipark Nonntal, Tanzstudio R 2.105 (2. Stock), Erzabt-Klotz-Str. 1, 5020 Salzburg

Together with the participants, Polish choreographer and performer Karol Tymiński will research other forms of sound generation and composition through the body, which will be based on his work This is a musical (2016). Through practical experimentation as well as reflective moments the performative aspects of music, sound and noise and their relation to the body will be approached.Among others, questions of interest will be:
– Through which techniques/procedures can the (moving) body be used as an instrument?
– How can different ways of producing sound be used as a tool for (movement) research?
– What is the relationship between sound, body, temporality, and space? How does sound relate to identity politics?

Karol Tymiński
is a Polish Berlin-based performer and choreographer. He graduated from P.A.R.T.S. in Brussels and Warsaw Ballet School, and is co-founder of the Centre in Motion – Choreographers Workspace in Warsaw. Tymiński’s works have been presented in various venues in Poland and abroad. The cultural magazine Dwutygodnik has described his work This is a musical as one of the most important cultural events in Poland.

The relatively young democracy Poland, whose political climate has intensified considerably since the last elections, is also moving increasingly to the fore. Politically critical leaders of representative cultural organisations have been and continue to be replaced by the new administration, while independent creative artists appear to be able to find niches so far or already live outside the country.
