Award to carry out a scientific project (in the context of a dissertation).

Endowment:

  • Monthly € 600.--
  • The project cost may be higher than the amount of the fellowship allowance

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

Accredited for Application:

  • Post-graduates of Diplom-, alternatively Master- and Doctoral study (excluding Baccalaureate)
  • The University of Salzburg is seeking to increase the proportion of women in the allocation of Research Fellowships, and therefore, urges qualified women to apply. Therefore women´s applications will be privileged till 40% of the budget can be awarded to women.

 

 Eligibility:

  • Post graduate (excluding Baccalaureate)
  • Austrian citizenship or equivalent of EU citizenship according to §4 StudFG (in german)
  • The additional average monthly income within the term of the fellowship must not exceed € 841.-- (net)
  • The research fellowship has to be used to finance a scientific project (either already underway or newly introduced by the applicant) arranged by an organisational unit of the University of Salzburg e.g. Department.
  • The scientific project has to be carried out in the context of a dissertation, the registration of the dissertation and a positive assessment of the disposition are necessary.
  • Application for another grant for the same project will be considered on a case-by-case basis only.

  • Duration of the Research Fellowships: 6 to 7 months

  • Closing date for applications: Typically, the middle/end of July for the current calendar
  • There is no age limit

 

The following documents must be enclosed in the application:

  • Project description (max. 3 pages)
  • Illustration of the methodology (approach to the management of the project, etc.)
  • Endorsement of the project by the project supervisor
  • Optional: additional certification or qualification (e.g. publications, lectures, etc.)
  • Graduation Certificate in the respective field of study
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae
  • Confirmation corresponding to §4 StudFG (e.g. proof of citizenship)
  • Affidavit that the specified income level is not exceeded
  • Validation of positive assessment of the disposition
  • Administrative information form

 

The following criteria are important for the jury:

  • Scientific benefit (concerning basic research)
  • Novelty, originality of the purpose (concerning basic research)
  • Economic benefit (concerning basic research and applied research)
  • Quality of applied methods
  • If more than one students/scientists participate in the project, it is necessary to point out in the exposé the exact contribution of the applicant

Note:

  • Assessment of the applications: in summer and autumn; final decision: end of the year; estimated time for starting the fellowship disbursement (in case of consent): January
  • After fellowship disbursement (in case of consent), the project supervisor will be asked to submit a short document summarizing the utilisation of the funds (approximately ½ page)
  •  In case of denial: an application for the next announcement is possible
  • The award of research fellowships is carried out within the limits of private-sector-administration. Consequently, no legal claim for entitlement or amount of the fellowships can be demanded (even if the requirements correlate)
  • Applicants will be notified of the final decision in writing.

    With Alexandra Föderl Schmid, Israel correspondent of the Süddeutsche Zeitung, and Marko Feingold, President of the Jewish Community Salzburg, on the occasion of his 106th birthday.
    The former standard editor-in-chief and current Israel correspondent for the Süddeutsche Zeitung, Alexandra Föderl-Schmid, presents her latest book "Unfassbare Wunder", in which she recorded 24 conversations with Holocaust survivors in Germany, Austria and Israel.     On 27 April, Ass. Prof. i. R. Dr. Reinhard Rublack passed away. Reinhard Rublack came in the pioneering phase of the University of Salzburg as a graduate theologian (studies, inter alia, Rudolf Bultmann) with Professor Rudolf Gönner from Saarbrücken to the (then) Institute for Education. As early as 1970 he completed his second degree with the interdisciplinary humanities dissertation on "The educational political trend of the 'Salzburger Intelligenzblatt' 1784 - 1806."
    In the fall of last year, our university passed the "college and family" audit. In January, the Federal Minister for Women, Families and Youth, Dr. Juliane Bogner-Strauß, recognized the certification of the PLUS as a family-friendly university.
    In cooperation with the University of Freiburg, the University of Salzburg is bringing the digital election aid "WahlSwiper" for the first time to Austria for the upcoming European elections.
    The Kurt-Zopf-Förderpreis 2018 was awarded on Wednesday, 24 April, 2019, to the plant ecologist, Stefan Dötterl, the sleep researcher, Manuel Schabus, and the mathematician, Wolfgang Trutschnig. The Salzburg scientists each received prize money of € 5,000 for their outstanding publications.
    Thanks to a generous legacy on the part of Herrn Kurt Zopf, the University of Salzburg is endowing the €10,000.00 Kurt Zopf Prize for habilitated members of organizational units of the University, which include the fields of Humanities, Cultural and / or Social Sciences, Law or Theology.
