Award to carry out a scientific project (in the context of a dissertation).

Endowment:

  • Monthly € 600.--
  • The project cost may be higher than the amount of the fellowship allowance

 

ELIGIBILITY

 

Accredited for Application:

  • Post-graduates of Diplom-, alternatively Master- and Doctoral study (excluding Baccalaureate)
  • The University of Salzburg is seeking to increase the proportion of women in the allocation of Research Fellowships, and therefore, urges qualified women to apply. Therefore women´s applications will be privileged till 40% of the budget can be awarded to women.

 

 Eligibility:

  • Post graduate (excluding Baccalaureate)
  • Austrian citizenship or equivalent of EU citizenship according to §4 StudFG (in German)
  • The additional average monthly income within the term of the fellowship must not exceed € 1.100,-- (net)
  • The research fellowship has to be used to finance a scientific project (either already underway or newly introduced by the applicant) arranged by an organisational unit of the University of Salzburg e.g. Department.
  • The scientific project has to be carried out in the context of a dissertation, the registration of the dissertation and a positive assessment of the disposition are necessary.
  • Application for another grant for the same project will be considered on a case-by-case basis only.

  • Duration of the Research Fellowships: 6 to 7 months

  • There is no age limit

 

The following documents must be enclosed in the application:

  • Project description (max. 3 pages)
  • Illustration of the methodology (approach to the management of the project, etc.)
  • Endorsement of the project by the project supervisor
  • Optional: additional certification or qualification (e.g. publications, lectures, etc.)
  • Graduation Certificate in the respective field of study
  • Detailed Curriculum Vitae
  • Confirmation corresponding to §4 StudFG (e.g. proof of citizenship)
  • Affidavit that the specified income level is not exceeded
  • Validation of positive assessment of the disposition
  • Administrative information form

 

The following criteria are important for the jury:

  • Scientific benefit (concerning basic research)
  • Novelty, originality of the purpose (concerning basic research)
  • Economic benefit (concerning basic research and applied research)
  • Quality of applied methods
  • If more than one students/scientists participate in the project, it is necessary to point out in the exposé the exact contribution of the applicant

Note:

  • Assessment of the applications: in summer and autumn; final decision: end of the year; estimated time for starting the fellowship disbursement (in case of consent): January
  • After fellowship disbursement (in case of consent), the project supervisor will be asked to submit a short document summarizing the utilisation of the funds (approximately ½ page)
  • In case of denial: an application for the next announcement is possible
  • The award of research fellowships is carried out within the limits of private-sector-administration. Consequently, no legal claim for entitlement or amount of the fellowships can be demanded (even if the requirements correlate)
  • Applicants will be notified of the final decision in writing.
  • The next Announcement will follow next year
  • Applicants are entitled to retrieve their ‘personal data’ at any time. Furthermore, they are entitled to have their ‘personal data’ rectified, deleted or to have the ‘restriction of processing’ limited.     In the current Economists' Ranking of the German Handelsblatt, University Professor Florian Huber (31), from the Salzburg Centre of European Union Studies (SCEUS), placed 100th place in the ranking for current research achievement and 62nd place in the Young Economists' ranking, which rates the overall research performance of under-40s.
    The orientation events for Erasmus and exchange students who will be attending the University of Salzburg in the winter semester 2019/2020 will take place from Monday, the 16th of September to Friday, the 27th of September, 2019.
    On Tuesday, 1 October, 2019, an informative event will be held at 17:15 in HS 3.348 (Unipark, 3rd floor, Department of Romance Studies), which is aimed primarily at all newly enrolled students of the Master's programme.     Dr. Therese Wohlschlager will be awarded the Feigl Prize of the Austrian Society for Analytical Chemistry on lthe 25th of September, 2019, during the 18th Austrian Chemistry Days 2019 in Linz.
    From the labor market to immigration. How have attitudes and ways of life changed in Austria in the last decades? This will be the main focus at the University of Salzburg during the Congress "Everything in Transition? Dynamics and continuities of modern societies." The congress is organized by the Austrian Society for Sociology and will take place from 26 to 28 September, 2019.
    As in the case of the recent European elections, a team from the Political Science Department of the University of Salzburg, together with the digital agency MOVACT, drafted a digital election assistance tool for the 29 September National elections on - the WahlSwiper.

    The University Library Salzburg (main library and Faculty Library for Law) opens the door to the public and offers a diverse program.
    The Salzburg Armenologist, Jasmine Dum-Tragut, opens the first exhibition on 31 August, 2019, at the Genocide Museum in Yerevan. The exhibition shows the fate of Armenian prisoners of war in the Austrian prison camps during the First World War.
    Democracy and the rule of law seem to have experienced better times in Europe. The recent developments in many countries point to a dismantling of the rule of law, fundamental rights and democracy.
