Since the alarming reports of the IPCC (= Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), climate change and its negative consequences for humans and nature can no longer be ignored. But why are we humans, even though we might counteract the effects of climate change, so careless in changing our lifestyle and resource use? Why, moreover, are the negative predictions often met with avoidance or even contemptuous denial?
We examine the questions from a socio-psychological perspective. What factors are crucial so that people actually respond with environmentally friendly behavior after confronting climate change information? From a psychological perspective, what are possible reasons for the lack of action in the field of environmental sustainability? Our goal is to make empirically validated theories tangible and usable in practice. For example, they have a high relevance in the implementation of climate protection projects or the effective communication of climate change content.
